Introducing Age of Empires: Castle Siege

Microsoft Studios and Smoking Gun Interactive are pleased to announce Age of Empires: Castle Siege!

Are you an Empire-Building Prodigy? A Siege Genius? A Tactical Mastermind? Then “Join the Siege”. New to Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8, Age of Empires: Castle Siege brings a fast-paced experience to touch-based screens while delivering all the strategy and combat Age of Empires is renowned for. Choose from one of several civilizations, expand your castle into a massive city, defend your walls against marauding empires and, when your newly trained army is ready, lay siege to other castles built by online opponents.

Age of Empires: Castle Siege features:

Empire-Building for those on the go: From building your castle into an impressive city, accumulating your resources to keep your fortress and your lands safe, to training your armies to both defend and attack your enemies, Castle Siege is built for you to enjoy the expansiveness of an Age of Empires game with the speed and simplicity of touch-based gaming.

Built for Touch: Now all your strategizing, empire-building and sieging is controlled by the simple swipe of your finger. Drag paths on the touchscreen to command units directly in battle. Using this tactical control to counter your opponents’ defenses is crucial to victory.

Connect with your Xbox Live Friends: Forge alliances with your Xbox Live friends, compete against other alliances for prized ‘crown count’, and fight your way to the top of the leaderboards.

Recruit The Greatest Heroes: when times get tough, it’s time to call up heroes. From Richard the Lionheart to Charlemagne, Castle Siege will allow you to deploy them to turn the battle in your favor.

Cross-platform play only on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8: If you have multiple Windows 8 devices, no matter. Your game progress is always saved to your Gamertag. Furthermore, you can battle friends across platforms, so any Windows 8 PC, tablet or Windows Phone 8 can join the siege.

Several civilizations to choose from: Age of Empires: Castle Siege starts off with six civilizations from the Medieval Era, including Britons, Teutons and Kievan Rus. Each civilization has upwards of six unique “cultural units”, along with cavalry and trebuchets equipment.

Recreate Famous Historical Battles: play through 10 historical battles, including the Siege of Marienburg and the Fall of Constantinople.

Join the siege this September, and tune in to today at 1 PM Pacific/GMT-7 for a live gameplay preview with the developers!

This looks much better than the World Domination app. It still isn’t classic AoE, but it looks like a game I’d enjoy anyway!

  5. Johan Hennis says:

Please stop making cartoon games. Make game that look realistic! Like AoE 2. Or make a remake of AoM without the cartoon style!!! Damnit when will you learn? AoEO was a huge fail cos of the cartoon style, and now this!

    • Jellyman says:

A remake of AOE2 was made with HD graphic upgrade and Age of Mythology was also remade in HD. Both are available via Steam. Check it out!

  6. Enner Pérez says:

another predictable failure, just as they did with AOEONLINE, good game, bad marketing strategies, high prices, and ended up sending it to the dump, only to make this mediocrity. I find it an insult to the AOE series.

This game isn’t out yet and people already figured out it is a complete waste of resources from MS.
Nice job with 80% of dislikes in the youtube promo.

  19. Joe says:

Why a historical game chooses a cartoon style? It should look like classic AoE style!

  20. Cool! Finally have a use for my Surface 2. I have been looking forward to this for some time. Hope it is not too distant from its roots. I have played it for two hours now, and it seems good so far. If the microtransaction push could be reduced just a bit, it would be a very good game indeed.

  21. Myles says:

    Their servers are down

  22. Amazing game! However, graphics are a bit off on my Lumia 830 (running Lumia Denim). I can see the apple and the timber, but no numbers before there (i.e. I don’t know how much any stuff costs or takes resources).

  23. Ibrahim abu-schindie says:

  25. eslijones says:

Search for the alliance “vampire elite” ,,, any one can join 😊

  26. Lowly says:

does anybody has any idea how to send resources to other player in AOE Castle Siege?

  27. Anon says:

Do not spend money in this game, it’s not actively developed. Lots of issues

    • Biyan says:

To be honest, this is the most stupid comment I ever read. If you want developer to keep updating the game, then give them a reason to. At this time of writing this, AoE-CS is now version 1.7 and it runs really great. No bug as you mentioned above.

Comparing to COC, really you shouldn’t. COC doesn’t deserve that.

  28. curvehead66 says:

This game is fun in the early stages but after you upgrade your castle a couple of times it really bogs down. It takes a long time to build up an army that you can play with, but that is not the worst thing. The worst part is the incredibly long times that building construction/upgrades take. I am now looking at a minimum of 16 hours to upgrade a single structure, and you are only allowed to upgrade four at a time regardless of your resources. Meanwhile, it can take 2 days and a ton of resources to upgrade buildings while still in the middle of the game. If you leave the game to do something else (as real life demands) you will be attacked by other players (OK with me) and lose resources (not OK, just bogs the game down even more). The best feature of this game is that it is free; the second best feature is how easy it is to uninstall.

  29. If only it was available on Android. Bought this nice big beautiful phone with a big screen and clear picture and the game is not available on Android. Pfft. They would make a ton more money if it was available on MORE systems.

  30. Ben Donaldson says:

It makes me so angry that this exists but I can’t play it because I have an iPhone. PLEASE MAKE A VERSION FOR iOS

  31. hello!,I really like your writing so so much! percentage we keep in touch
extra about your post on AOL? I need a specialist in this area to unravel my
problem. Maybe that is you! Taking a look forward to see you.

  32. andy says:

So many buthurted ios and android user. Deal with it dude. Wait!! Dont act like u re so superior just like always tryin to shown. This game is cool. And i smell some of android fanboy tryin to spread negative comments about this game.

  33. Shopno says:

We want “WAR” between alliance. Please available this feature.

  34. Please allow this for android devices. This game will be rather more famous than it is now. I love this game

  35. samuel anggi says:

Please allow us to play on android devices, I’m age of empires lover!

  36. Hi, its nice article on the topic of media print, we all be familiar with
media is a great source of facts.

  37. Leah says:

I play castle siege on my ASUS Transformer, under the settings in Link Accounts it says “You can link your Game Center account to your Xbox Live account and play your empire on all your devices. To link accounts, log into the game on your Apple mobile device and choose ‘Link Accounts’ from Settings” and in the help and support section it mentions something similar under two of the questions both indicating you can play on an Apple mobile device. However it is not available in the Apple Store. Please Explain. I am VERY disappointed.

  38. Daniel says:

This game defiantly needs war between alliances, otherwise joining an alliance is boring. And also the option to buy a peace treaty and not only get them if u are attacked. Good game but yes still a few things that need to be improved. Chop chop please with doing them.
