Big news from gamescom 2020!

SUMMARY

  • Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition will release on October 15th 2020
  • Pre-order the game today to explore familiar frontiers on launch day
  • Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition will be available on Steam, Windows 10 PC and Xbox Game Pass for PC (beta)

The countdown to the launch of Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition starts today! Tonight, at gamescom: Opening Night Live, our team was excited to reveal the official trailer for Age III: DE, as well as kick off pre-orders for the game as it nears its release on October 15th.

It’s been years since we kicked off the idea of bringing back the Age of Empires series in definitive form, and through each game we’ve listened to our fans, learned, and refined our process to make the best possible true “Age” experience of each game that we can. In just a few months, long-time Age fans will be able to complete their collection, and those yet to try Age III: DE will be able to experience this groundbreaking game in the best version possible—continuing our mission of setting the standard of what it means to create “definitive” editions of classic games.

What is Age III: DE?

In Age III: DE, players can expect 4K graphics, rebuilt 3D assets, a modernized UI, cross-play multiplayer, and fully enhanced soundtrack and audio. In addition to all previously released content, Age III: DE also features two new game modes and two new civilizations exclusive to the Definitive Edition.

For game modes, we’ve added a series of Historical Battles set within the time period the game covers, as well as several new fan favorite Art of War challenges—which were added after the overwhelmingly positive community feedback about their appearance in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition! These challenges are specifically tailored to not only teach you the in’s and out’s of real-time strategy games, but the unique nuances of Age III: DE’s gameplay and meta strategies that have evolved over years of play.

When it comes to civilizations, Age of Empires III and its expansions featured 14 civilizations from across Europe, the Americas, and Asia, and we’re adding two brand-new civilizations exclusively to the Definitive Edition: The Swedes and The Incas!

  • The Swedes are a brand new addition to the franchise and cover one of history’s most unlikely great powers: a small European nation which eclipsed all military convention and became a powerhouse on the European battlefields thanks to their innovative military tactics.
  • The Incas are a more traditional Age of Empires civilization, covering one of the largest empires in South America, where they constructed mighty stone cities, citadels and palaces.

Whether you’re more of a city builder or aiming for military domination, we think all players will have a lot of fun exploring each both civ’s unique play styles!

New and Improved

Speaking on civilizations, a key focus of our work at World’s Edge is to authentically represent the cultures and peoples that we depict in our games. While developing Age III: DE, we realized that we weren’t upholding that value as well as we could regarding our Native American cultures; so we set out to fix that: working directly with tribal consultants to respectfully and accurately capture the uniqueness of their peoples, history, and cultures. Returning players will find there’s been some fundamental changes to the Native American civilizations, and we hope you find them as compelling as we do!

We’ll have more to share as we get closer to launch.

PLEASE focus on clarity/differentiability between units as first priority, then the graphics, you are losing people because of that right now it's not something small, it's the big part of the gameplay, u have to do something don't let it like that.

As of today we can preorder AOE III DE but the way to obtain the 25% discount promised on this page https://www.ageofempires.com/news/age3de-preorder-now-gc2020/ is not explained anywhere. I do own the two previous versions on the same MS account (AOE I and II DE). How should we proceed to get this discount please? Thanks . BC

Hola. Todos los puedes comprar en Steam, existe del 1 al 3, los tres ya con ediciones definitivas. Si los quieres comprar en físico en Lima tal vez puedas encontrar en Law Gamers o Mas Gamers, aunque es poco probable.

$45 for a 13 year old game with some fan made mods, pretty pathetic levels of wringing money going on here. After 13 years without a sequel, you should be selling this tripe for $10 and begging on hands and knees for aoe's beyond-patient fans to wait until you release aoe 4 in 2084.

45 is for the collection (Aoe DE, AOE 2 DE, AOE 3 DE). Aoe3 DE will be 20. Fan made mods? Have you played AOE 2 DE? In my opinion they did a very good job.

Bootcamp, that's the only way you are going to be able to play the game on a Mac. They wont be releasing a Mac version of the game.

So if u buy the DE edition you don't need to pay any dlc's and will have all the civs, right?

why i see nothing about voice chat? i want to make friends inside game, without having to invite them to discord...
i dont want to play 4vs4 and taht the guy that is not on discord dont even type or comunnicate, we dont read minds, come on , I NEED A VOICE CHAT INSIDE GAME.

    • noradia September 29, 2020
You would still get the same problem even with in game voice chat, sounds like you want someone to be on voice at all times when you are playing. That is not going to happen not in a billion years, besides Discord is a billion times better voice chat program out there than any in game voice chat.

But will the maps get more "random"? Aside from playing Unknown all the time I get tired of playing on the same 8-10 maps in AOE III. More randomness to the stock maps would be nice ala AOE II. Also bigger maps - bigger than "Large" would be really nice and bring up some of the tactics I can do in AOE II.

Also, Austrians (Austrian Empire) and Italians (Venice, Genoa, Milan, unification) make lot of sense, must-haves for AoE3DE!

YESSSSS!!! I've been beta testing early multiplayer builds for AoE3DE and by that time there were no new features/modes/civs, so I was a bit disappointed actually. I'm very very very happy to see that they've listened to player feedback like mine that URGED them to deliver 2-3 new GAME MODES (such as Historical Battles and Art of War) and 2-3 NEW CIVS as content and review/balance/improve EXISTING FACTIONS (which sounds like they're doing for the Native American civs for sure, and hopefully for the rest of the civs as well, I hope the Ottomans are more optimized and have more variety of strategies rather than just the Jan+Abus rush). Overall, I'm very very satisfied and I'll be down for additional DLC/Expansions adding MORE civs, game modes, and CAMPAIGNS/Historical Battles. My vote would be for Persians (Timurids, Safavids), Arabs (Barbary Corsairs/States, Algiers, Morocco), Polish (Commonwealth was strong in the beginning of this period), Koreans, Africans (Shaka Zulu) for Africa DLC/Expansion, Indonesians/Malay, Vietnamese, Thai for South East Asia (Sultanate of Malacca, etc.) This early modern period is very rich in history and conflicts and narratives of heroism and tragedy to explore, just like they did with the AoE2HD expansion DLCs focusing on Forgotten Empires, African Kingdoms, and Southeast Asia.

Yeah you need to get this bundle for the discount: https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/15965/Age_of_Empires_III_Complete_Collection__Definitive_Edition_Bundle/

    • rve88 August 28, 2020

Something must be going wrong here. Noticed the same. The above text clearly states "OWNERS". Hence, for those who already own the Complete Edition, the discount should be applied.

    • henrythelion August 27, 2020

You have to buy it in a bundle with the Complete Edition to get the discount.

  • stevenx110 August 27, 2020
