Get ready for the eagerly anticipated first expansion to Age of Empires IV! Experience two completely new playable civilizations, the Japanese and the Byzantines, and four playable variant civilizations that revisit and re-imagine some of the first civilizations from the main release of Age of Empires IV. This expansion also includes ten new maps, two new biomes, new unlockable rewards, and a new campaign!
The Byzantines
The Byzantines come equipped with three unique aspects: an Aqueduct network, access to mercenaries, and powerful Greek Fire. The civilization constructs sprawling Aqueduct networks that boost the productivity of their empire and aids in the generation of Olive Oil, a unique fifth resource used to hire mercenaries.
The Japanese
The Japanese civilization introduces the new Daimyo system, allowing you to upgrade the Town Center to a Daimyo Manor, with powerful defenses and bolstering nearby farms. Unlock Samurai Bannermen, special units that provide significant combat bonuses to units around them. Embrace espionage by fielding the unique Shinobi, capable of blending in with enemy Villagers and sabotaging production from behind enemy lines.
Four New Variant Civilizations
This expansion introduces new Variant Civilizations – existing civilizations re-imagined with exciting new heroes, units, and strategies. The Ayyubids (Abbasid Dynasty), Jeanne d’Arc (French), Order of the Dragon (Holy Roman Empire) and Zhu Xi’s Legacy (Chinese)are playable in all skirmish and multiplayer game modes.
The Sultans Ascend Campaign
This new Age of Empires IV single player campaign takes place in the Middle East during the European Crusades. You’ll take on the role of the Muslim resistance and follow the story of historic Muslim leaders and their struggles with the European Crusaders. Players will fight against the Holy Orders of the Templars, Hospitallers, and Teutons, as well as their old foes, the Mongols.
This is the first Age of Empires IV campaign to feature naval gameplay. The fight plays out both on land and at sea with new heroes, abilities, and mechanics at your disposal.
