Hello knights of the Age of Empires: Definitive Edition! It’s been less than a day since the official release of the Definitive Edition on Steam, and the whole community has been awesome at working with us and highlighting the biggest issues impacting your experience. Today’s build contains a handful of fixes for some of the biggest and most glaring issues that cropped up with the release build over the past day. Give them a read and let us know if you continue to have issues!

Update 28218


▪ MS STORE ▪

Remember that you’ll need update your game in the Microsoft Store:

  1. Open the Microsoft Store.
  2. Click the [ ∙ ∙ ∙ ] symbol next to your profile picture.
  3. Select Downloads and updates.
  4. Press the Get updates button to automatically detect, download, and install the latest changes to your game!
  5. Open the game. The title screen should read Build 28218

That’s it; you’re ready to play!

▪ STEAM ▪

Remember that you’ll need update your game in Steam:

  1. Open Steam
  2. Click on Library to see your games list.
  3. Click Downloads at the bottom of the Library window.
  4. [If the new build does not download automatically,] click the button to manually download the new update.
  5. Open the game. The title screen should read Build 28218

GENERAL

  • Fixed an issue where the game would halt due to anti-virus checks.
  • Fixed several issues with duplicate region names and region-selection not behaving as expected.

 

USER INTERFACE (UI)

  • Fixed a issue on the campaign completion screens which would cause the text to be overwritten by the statistics buttons.

 

MULTIPLAYER

  • Fixed a crash caused when closing the post-game statistics screen if a spectator was present.
  • Improved the behavior of the lobby browser when refreshing the list.

    Mi juego sigue sin poder actualizarse. Ya revisé las actualizaciones de Windows y mi equipo esta al día. Por favor no vayan a volver a crear un parche anual para solucionar los problemas. Tardé un año completo en poder jugar AoE DE en mi equipo después de su lanzamiento en 2018. Ahora no puedo jugar con los usuarios de Steam porque a mi equipo no le llega el nuevo cliente.

    Hi.. I read somewhere that aoe1de is using the same multiplayer technology being developed for age4, does that mean we have dedicated servers now?

    Developers - where is the patch for MS store users? Pretty simple to respond that you've messed up and its coming soon and that cross compatibility isn't viable until you sort this. Shut up shop - sort the steam version out then release a combined patch for both platforms that you know works. That's your job.

      Hey there! The patch was released to the Microsoft Store yesterday (August 22). You should be able to find and download it by following the instructions for the 'MS Store' in the post above, which will re-enable the ability to matchmake with Steam users.

    I have had issues with the in-game music going completely silent after a few games, thereby having to restart the whole game to keep the in-game music playing. I even reinstalled the game from the Microsoft Store, hoping that the issue was because of an installation error/ update bug or similar.

    I haven't tried this update yet as of now, but reading the changelog it seems like there's no mention of this bug being ironed out.

      Hi; I'm using Windows 10, forgot to mention that. This is an issue I have had for some time now, only on this game.

      Are you playing on a Windows 8.1 or earlier operating system? While Operating Systems earlier than Windows 10 aren't officially supported at this time, you can try this little trick to fix the sound issues:

    You need to fix the zero population issue when hosting a scenario. Some players have zero population in scenarios.

    I'm in the United States (Indiana) and I still don't have this update available to me in the Microsoft Store for my PC install either. Annoying to keep getting a popup that says to update the game and yet no update.

      Thanks! Just got the new version installed. I didn't realize there was new Win 10 OS version. For me, even though I have automatic updating turned on, it was still a manual install. I noticed it on the Window Update screen after the instructions above. Thanks again!

      Have you upgraded to the new client? In order to support cross-network play with Steam, users will need to download a new client. Instructions on how to do so are posted here:
