I have posted on Steam and now I will say it again if anyone cares at all. The main problem needed to be fixed is the FPS, and I am not the only one who's been struggling this. Frames drop at anytime even on high-end PC build. I started to encountered this every since update 28218. And why does it have to be 60-fps-limited? And how about adding Low-Medium-High graphic options for the game? It hurts to see such a game with so much good old memory is being ruined like this. Not so much hope for AoE II DE anymore. sighhhh

Update 28529 breaks the LAN game functionality. Does anyone at Microsoft care at all?

Guys, solution is to search for age of empires definitive edition in the microsoft store. Scroll down and make sure you have the new version, install from there!

  • livelionheart October 4, 2019

Looks like we've got the definitive version of the game, but it's totally broken. Settings are reset everytime when you launch the game. The new fonts look awful and inconsistent with other UI elements. It used to be a good game.
Also not sure why the new game doesn't appear in my store library.

The only way to remove the message is to actually update to the new client. However, in order to do this you need to update windows 10 to the latest build. Once that is done, the new build is a completely new client. So you need to reinstall the game again after you update windows 10 to latest.

    • livelionheart October 4, 2019

Does anyone know if there is a way to remove the annoying message in the old client that tells you to update to the new client?

Don't get too excited, folks. Build 28529 might just as well be vapour ware, as Microsoft isn't letting you have it. The only build available from Microsoft Store is 27374. Oh, and by the way, Microsoft don't care how much time you waste trying to get hold of the latest supposed build by reinstalling AoE in your frustration with its Get Updates process not doing what Evan Techeira says it should.

UPDATE to my comment. I have since learned that this update is for the new PC client version which can be downloaded for free from Microsoft Store and run alongside the original PC version. However, having done this, I now find I shouldn't have bothered. This new version doesn't look as good, the fonts are all wrong and fit their surrounding frames badly, and the on-screen icons and minimap are now far too small.

  • furiousforcey September 22, 2019

Yeah..just to let you know. Going to Microsoft Store and clicking get updates button does NOT update this game to build 28529. My build is still 27374. I'm not reinstalling this game. Either fix the problem or I just won't care anymore.

    • furiousforcey September 22, 2019

I don't mean to be rude here...but after scrolling through all of these comments, it seems I'm not the only one with this problem. You people need to get your sh*t together. Why boast about an update that we can't have?

Also, are you ever going to do anything about the abysmal lag in multiplayer? Everything takes 2-3 seconds to respond to your commands. What's the point of playing like that??

  • dragonzdoom September 18, 2019

I downloaded the game again, and got the same error :(
