What is Regicide Mode?

Regicide is a classic mode first introduced in Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings in 1999. The format is simple: Players who lose their Regent – traditionally a King – are instantly defeated.

In The Baltic Powers we decided to switch things up: The Regent is no longer a feeble, insanely fast unit that hides in a tower all game. Instead, they now have a presence on the battlefield with a lot of hitpoints and no option to hide. This requires players to pay more attention to the objective of the mode: Kill the enemy Regents and don’t get killed while trying!

What is Independence Mode?

Independence mode lets you experience the raw core of every civilization without the safety net of their Home Cities. Cut off from XP and shipments, victory rests solely on your tactical ingenuity. Traditional XP sources are either silenced or repurposed to provide a mix of all resources – such as Trade Routes. To compensate for the lack of shipments, starting resources are instant and Villagers gather slightly faster.

We have also given every civilization an updated set of unique bonuses to preserve their identity. For example, the Spanish research all technologies faster and the Lakota can break up camp to relocate their buildings. Iconic, exclusive assets such as Forts, Factories, and even the mighty Ottoman Sipahi are no longer locked behind shipments. Instead, they can all be accessed organically in your civilization – fully independent of the Home City.

Which Maps Are Added in The Baltic Powers?

You will get to explore over 25 new thematic maps, featuring an Arctic Map Pack spanning from Svalbard to Nunavut. Traverse the frozen tundra by Inuit dog sled or brave the ice aboard a grim Whaling Ship. Disembark further south in Nova Scotia or the Shetlands to enlist Scottish Clansmen loyal to the House of Stuart. Here are some sneak peaks:

Bering Straight
Greenland
Svalbard

New Historical Maps include:

  • The Livonian War
  • The Dano-Swedish Wars
  • The Wars of the Three Kingdoms

Bonus Map Pack

In addition to brand new maps, The Baltic Powers also grants full access to these selected DLC maps to play in the homelands and historical battlefields of the new main and minor civilizations:

  • 14 Random Maps: Baltic, Danish Straits, Pomerania, Vistula Basin, Lithuania, Courland, Jutland, Pripet Marshes, Dnieper Basin, Scotland, Ireland, England, Wales, Finland.
  • 4 Historical Maps: The Deluge, The Great Northern War, The Great Turkish War, The Thirty Years’ War.

Which Hero Customizations are added in The Baltic Powers?

The Hero Cosmetics Pack Vol. 2 is our largest customization set yet. The Baltic Powers features over 50 distinct looks for heroes from all civilizations. Here are just a few of the highlights included in the collection:

Hürrem Sultan
Ottomans
Frederick the Great
Germans
Carnival Dancer
Portuguese
Maigadi Officer
Hausa

Roxelana

The Old Fritz

Samba!

Domin Sarki!

…plus dozens more, including Gustavus Adolphus, the Valkyrie, or the Arctic Explorer.

Alongside a vast majority of brand-new outfits, this pack also includes highly requested cosmetics from past monthly events that you might have missed, such as Ada Lovelace, Mila the Bear and Thor. For owners of Hero Cosmetics Pack Vol.1, this is the perfect opportunity to build the ultimate “closet” for heroes and complete your collection.

What Happened to the Native Winged Hussar Unit?

The Winged Hussar was first introduced in Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition – Knights of the Mediterranean as a native unit belonging to the the Royal House of Vasa. With the release of The Baltic Powers the Winged Hussar is taking its rightful place as a Polish unique unit.

In return, the House of Vasa can now train the Companion – an equally hard-hitting cavalry unit armed with a war hammer. This ensures that the Vasa remain a powerhouse on the battlefield, while allowing the Poles to fully embrace their most iconic historical unit.

Can I Still Play Honshu Regicide?

Yes! Although we do encourage you to play the new Regicide mode, the old version of Regicide limited to the Honshu map remains in the game and continues to be playable.
