
Welcome to a new update for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition! This update focuses on stability, gameplay fixes, and targeted balance tuning across both core systems and recent content. Several fixes are aimed at addressing late game performance and crashes, fixing issues with Trade Cart collisions, plus Xbox and Playstation crashes. For balance, Champi Scouts receive several adjustments to address their power level. As always, we thank you for your continuous feedback and reports.
While there are plenty of notable fixes and features to which to look forward in today’s build, here are some of the big highlights coming with this month’s update:

Remember that you’ll need to update your game in the Microsoft Store:
- Open the Microsoft Store.
- Click the [∙ ∙ ∙ ] symbol next to your profile picture.
- Select Downloads and updates.
- Press the Get updates button to automatically detect, download, and install the latest changes to your game!
- Open the game. The title screen should show you on Build 170934.
If you are unable to launch the game after downloading the update, make sure you add (or re-add) the Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition client or folder as an exception to your firewall and antivirus program.
That’s it; you’re ready to play!
Remember that you’ll need to update your game in Steam:
- Open Steam.
- Click on Library to see your games list.
- Click Downloads at the bottom of the Library window.
- [If the new build does not download automatically,] click the Download Now button to manually download the new update.
- Open the game. The title screen should show you on Build 170934.
That’s it; you’re ready to play!
Remember that you’ll need to update your game in the Xbox App for Windows.
- Open the Xbox app.
- Games that are installed show up on the left side of the app.
- Hover over the game or click it, and then select Update.
- [If the new build does not download automatically,] hover over the game, select More Options (…), choose Manage. Under the Files tab, choose the option to Check for Updates.
- Open the game. The title screen should show you on Build 170934.
That’s it; you’re ready to play!
- Under the games tab from the PlayStation Home Screen Locate the game and hover over it. Make sure not to select it!
- While hovering over the game press the Pause button (☰) on your controller.
- In the new pop up menu select the Check for Update option.
- If there is a new update available, this will automatically start the download. If your game is on the most recent version, selecting this option will confirm that information for you.
That’s it; you’re ready to play!
Please note that custom mods may not be compatible with the latest game update. If you are experiencing issues launching or playing the game after downloading the new build, try disabling your installed mods before trying again.

Stability & Performance
- Improved Trade Cart collision and pathfinding logic, preventing the deterioration of performance to an unstable state under some circumstances.
UI
- Fixed the Burmese Tech Tree from showing the Padded Archer Armor as Unavailable.
Xbox
- Fixed several issues causing the game to freeze/crash or reboot the console.
- This includes improvements to memory usage affecting stability on Xbox One models.
PlayStation
- Fixed several issues causing the game to freeze/crash or reboot the console.
Gameplay

Fixes
- Inca Monks now use their unique voice lines as intended instead of Female Villager lines.
- Fixed an issue causing Shift + Click to Ungarrison a specific type of Unit from Transport Ships to unload all Units instead of just the selected type.
- Fixed an issue making Rams exceedingly fast if Villagers garrisoned in them were transformed into Flemish Militia with Burgundians’ “Flemish Revolution” Unique Technology.
- Fixed an issue where Archer-type units and Fortifications upgraded with Tupi’s “Curare” Unique Technology did not apply poison damage to Cavalry Archer-type units.
- Fixed an issue replacing all drop off buildings with Settlements for every Civilization when starting a game with the Full Tech Tree option enabled.
- Fixed an issue where Elite Longboats would not use the correct Hotkey.
- Fixed an issue where Snakes would not display a dying animation when swimming in water.
- Fixed an issue where creating Sound mods for Female Monks (including South American and Chronicles civilizations) was not fully possible without a data mod.
- Fixed an issue where Heavy Demolition Ships had less line of sight than Demolition Ships.
- Fixed an issue where Dragon Ships trained slower than Fire Ships.
Campaign

Campaign Missions
- El Dorado 5: ‘The Golden King’: Fixed an issue preventing Ambushers’ (Green) Units from evacuating Foundations if the players tried to construct a Building near ambush sites.
- Lautaro 4: ‘The Elusive Snake’: Fixed an issue where multiple morale statuses could be displayed for the same allied player.
- Lautaro 4: ‘The Elusive Snake’: Players are now correctly awarded with Skirmishers at the beginning of the scenario if they decided to choose the Skirmishers Tribe in Lautaro 1: ‘Gods of Death and Terror’.
- Lautaro 5: ‘A Taste of Freedom’: Players can now trade with the Mapuche Tribes (Orange) market.
- Tamar 4: ‘Tamar the Builder’: Fixed an issue making Alexios’ (Yellow) Cataphracts to attack the Player’s Units despite Alexios being allied to the Player.
Balance Changes

General
- Champi Scout Adjustments:
- Champi Scout speed reduced from 1.1 → 1.0 (Runner, Warrior and Elite versions unchanged)
- Champi Scout attack reduced from 4 → 3.
- Gain +1 attack vs. Cavalry
- Gain +1 attack vs. Camels
- Gain +2 attack vs. Shock Infantry (+1 → +3)
Developer Note: These attack bonuses are only applied to the Champi Scout and not to the Runner, Warrior and Elite. This is targeting the specific interactions between starting scouts in Dark Age.
- Champi Runner adjustments:
- Champi Runner bonus vs buildings removed (1 → 0)
- Champi Runner upgrade cost increased from 100f 60g → 120f 60g
- Champi Runner upgrade research time increased from 40 seconds to 50 seconds
- Champi Warrior adjustments:
- Champi Warrior upgrade cost increased from 125f 100g → 200f 175g
- Champi-line cost increased from 45f 25g → 50f 25g
- Champi-line Outpost build time changed from 15 → 30/25/20/15 seconds (with Scout/Runner/Warrior/Elite)
Mapuche
- Settlement train times adjusted:
- Skirmisher 52 → 56 seconds.
- Elite Skirmisher 33 → 36 seconds.
- Spearman 44 → 47 seconds.
- Pikeman 33 → 36 seconds.
Tupi
- Curare effect on Blackwood Archers reduced from 3 damage over 15 seconds to 2 damage over 15 seconds (Archer-line unchanged at 5 damage over 15 seconds).
- The dead unit refund bonus for Blackwood Archers now correctly refunds 15% of the total cost (7.5% per each Blackwood Archer).
Localization

- Fixed several text display issues affecting the Vietnamese language.
