Wololo Wednesday: December Contest & November Winners

Season’s Greetings, Wololo Warriors!

It’s time once again to step up and show your wololo spirit in our monthly contest!

But first, the winners from last month! We had SUCH a hard time picking only 5 winners this month, you guys delivered a ton of fantastic entries in November. If you’d like to view all of them you can go to the thread here. In the mean time here are our winners for the month:

Elite Cataphract – Who obviously loves the unit enough to be named after it:)

My Favourite Unit is the Cataphract of Age of Empires II HD

The Cataphract is very useful for fast aid defense when you are being attacked by infantry, most mounted units and especially siege units, it becomes even more powerful once you develop the unique technology that gives them trample effect that makes it very useful even if you are fighting many units at once, its capable of surviving even some of the most challenging battles if you use it correctly.

I love using them when I attack with siege weapons, because the Cataphract being a cavalry unit, can move faster to save any flank of the army that is vulnerable, and can counter most units quite effectively, except when there are too many archers attacking them, but overall I like the special features this unit has and its representation of the Historical Mark left by the Byzantine Empire.

For_Sparta – Who’s username and artwork are fantastic!

TendingBridge81 – Who’s father was quite surprised by the Scotish!

I always loved the highlander infantry, especially in combo with the Dutch. The Dutch people don’t really have any musketeers at their disposal, but they do however have a lot of coin so these flying Scotsmen, trained from the tavern like true Scots, are a steal. When in combo with Dutch Nassauer infantry they cut through all and every rank. I remember hearing my father scream ‘Where on earth did you get the scots, lad’ after the Gaelic first flowed from my speakers while we were playing together.

Pan Calvus – who seems quite enamored with the Egyptian Warriors:)

Bam, chariots.

There’s so much I want to explain about the role of chariots and chariot archers in the game, how the Hittite campaign cleverly nudged the player towards using chariots, my choice for this format etc, but the image contains all 600 of my characters. These sentences are not part of the submission.

WildestWolf153 – Who’s choice of unit seems simple, but very necessary!

(Wololo ! ) My favorite unit is Villagers,
Villagers can be trained from Town Center. They are the backbone unit for every civilization in Age of Empires. And being the foundation of a civilization, they are the most important units in the game as the primary collectors of resources, construct and repair buildings, and to establish a great Empire! :)

Congrats to all the winners, and thanks to everyone who participated!

On to this month’s contest! Here in the Pacific North West the the weather is pretty drab this time of year, and without any snow sometimes it feels like the holidays aren’t really happening. To get us into the spirit of the season we thought we’d ask all of you to show us what your villagers would do for the holidays! This can come in the form of an illustration by you, a screen shot from the game, whatever you feel like doing! Just have fun with it!

Your entry MUST include an image and must relate to an Age of Empires game (or an illustration having to do with one). You may also include a written portion explaining your entry that may be no more than 600 characters in length (not including spaces); if your entry includes non-English words, you must provide an accurate English translation of those words in your written portion.

We’ll pick our five favorites, and the winners will each be able to choose two of the below prizes! We’ll reach out to the winners via private message on forums.ageofempires.com, so keep an eye on your inbox! Submissions must be appropriate, and must be submitted in the forum discussion thread here before 12:00 PM PST on Monday January 1st, 2018. That’s right, as our present to you you’ll get 5 extra days to complete this challenge, since we know everyone is busy during the holidays! You can find the full official rules here.

Good luck everyone!
