Age of Empires IV launches October 28th, available for Pre-order Now!

Age of Empires being a series of strategy games, there are definitely a lot of comparisons that can be drawn between the game of chess and the series. Maybe, this was the reason why deviantArt user Jithral was inspired to recreate two games from the series in chess form.

In the image below, you can see a chess setup for Age of Empires II. Jithral said in his comment on the screenshot that he didn’t like it that the image showed the cursor. I actually think it adds to the feeling of the image, as the figurines in a game of chess are also moved by a person and don’t move out of their own volition.

The image below shows some of the units in Age of Mythology in a chess board-style set up. This one is especially interesting because Jithral turned it into a game of “mankind vs. mythology”. The choice of Colossi as towers for the mythological units is really cool.

Which of these two chess boards do you like better? Would you have used different units for the layouts? Do you think mankind stands a chance against the mythological creatures?

Awesome! Why are there no comments on this??
Good unit choices, though for AoE II I would have halbs/villagers for pawns, siege towers for rooks, and something else for the queens (maybe paladins?)
