We’re happy to announce that we have another guest blog that we would like to share with you. This blog comes from MuhsinTpd, who is a very active member of our community and who would like to start a series on the games in the Kings & Myths collection, which included the original Age of Mythology, the expansion The Titans, and both the original AoE II and the expansion The Conquerors. Please make sure to share your feedback on this blog below and let us know if you would like to see more of his work in future blogs.
If you would like to become a volunteer guest blogger yourself, make sure to send an e-mail with your submission to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will review your blog, and if your work ends up being featured on our website, you will get a nifty forum badge.
Now, here’s Muhsin’s blog:
Zeus is the “Father of Gods and men” who ruled the Olympians of Mount Olympus in Greece. As a father, he ruled the family according to ancient Greek myths. The youngest son of the Titans Kronos and Rheia, he was hidden by his mother when Kronos learned of the prophecy that one of his sons would supplant him as ruler of the world. When he became an adult, Zeus forced his father to regurgitate his other children that he had swallowed. Zeus then led a revolt against the Titans, who were banished to Tartarus, a place further down than the underworld. Zeus and his two brothers drew a great deal to decide each god’s part of the world. Zeus drew the heavens, and became the supreme rule over all the gods and mankind.
Zeus can be found in all Greek mythological stories. He is the brother of Hestia, Demeter, Hera, Hades, and Poseidon, and the father of many other gods and goddesses. He has several mistresses but married Hera, his sister. Many stories portray Hera as jealous of his amorous conquests and as a consistent enemy of Zeus’ mistresses and their children with him. For some time, a nymph named Echo was tasked with distracting Hera from his affairs by talking incessantly, and when Hera discovered the deception, she cursed Echo to repeat the words of others.
Zeus is the most famous god in Greek mythology by far. There were many statues erected in Zeus’ honor, the most magnificent being the colossal statue of Zeus at Olympia, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The Olympic Games were originally held in his honor.
In Age of Mythology, Zeus is a main God. Zeus focuses on infantry and Favor. This allows for the creation of more Myth Units to strengthen an army. Zeus’ Hoplites move faster than those of the other Greek gods, and infantry do extra damage to buildings, making infantry rushes viable. Playing Zeus can be a lot of fun. You can choose these mirror Gods: Ares or Hermes in Classical Age, Apollo or Dionysus in Heroic Age, Hera or Hephaestus in Mythic Age. All mirror Gods have different god powers. There was a Greek Wonder statue for Zeus in Age of Empires Online, similar to real ancient Greek Zeus statues.
